How The Infertility Doctor Tests for Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH): Part 4

Baby SleepingThe Infertility Doctor will test a woman’s Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) level to estimate a count of egg follicles too small to be seen via ultrasound. AMH is a protein hormone produced by these very small – microscopic growing follicles.

Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH)

As the egg follicles continue to develop – AMH production is highest in prenatal, small antral follicles less than 4 mm (<4mm).

A woman’s AMH level does not fluctuate dramatically during her menstrual cycle. AMH measurements DO NOT have to be performed on menstrual cycle days 2 through 5. This is the difference between AMH screening versus E2, FSH and ultrasound measurements.
